April 2006 Project: Reading Non-Fiction A.R. Books

On this discussion board, MaestroSersea's ELD students should write about the non-fiction AR books they've read in class. Students must list the book title, their AR test accuracy percentage, and include a summary of each book they've read.

I read the book with little Stars, this book has 3.2 AR reading level and I got it 100% in my AR score.
The stars are giant balls of very hot gas. The groups of stars are called clusters.
Some stars seem to make a picture in the sky.

I read the book We Celebrate by Brenda Parkes.
The AR level for this book is 3.1 and I took the test and I got 100%.
My summary for this book is:
Everybody come from many different countries so we are all Americans. On special days we celebrate our cultures with festivals and parades.
For example the Chinese New Year is a special celebration for the Chinese people. On Cinco de Mayo the Mexican people celebrate the heritage with dancing and parades.
Remember you need are proud of our many countries.

What Can Change?

1.3
Many things change .
The little chicks will grow and change. Plants change too. The small plants will grow.
The water will freeze and turn into ice. People also change from babies to children to adults.

The Stars
I got 100% in this book.
My book is about the stars that we see all the night.
Stars are very far away and there are different colors.
Each color has its own name.
The big star is called the Big Dog.

I read the book How Animals Breathe.
This book has 3.6 AR Reading Level.
I got 80% AR Score.
Mnay animals doesn't have a lungs. Some animals have Gills, Tubes, and Lungs. Some animals can't breathe in water like fish, turtle, dolphines, and much more.

I read the book Machines Called Robots.
This book has 4.1 AR Reading Level.
I got 80% AR Score.
Before you can built a robots you need to sketch the parts first and make a design.

I read the book Incredible Cells.
This book has 2.9 AR Reading Level.
I got 80% AR Score.
The plants and animals have a different Cells. The Cell have a Nucleus that stored in the center of the Cell. The Cell have a Chloroplast that absorb the energy of the sunlight.

I read the book Let's Go Shopping.
This book has 1.0 AR Reading Level.
I got 100% AR Score.
This book included the things that probably need to a Birthday Party. Before you go to shop, you need to list all you need to buy and where you should go.

Hi!!!
I read the book New York, and I got 60%, so that's mean that I passed!!!!
I read this book because I like N.Y and when I grow up I wanna live there!!!
My summary is:
The people from N.Y use the subway a lot!!!
Many puerto ricans, cubans, dominicans live there but the most people are African Americans...
For many years N.Y was the capital of U.S.A.

I read the book "Washington". The book level is 4.4. The book AR points is 0.5, and I get a 100% on my test. This book is about Washington. In Washington live the US President. Washington has a lot traditions.

I read "The Grain Group" book. The AR level is 2.2. My score was 5 out of 5. This book is about the food. I ready learn how can do better my food.

I read the book "Discovery Teams" by Daniel Jacobs. I think that I scored a 100 percent on the AR test.

The book explains that there are many different discovery teams all over the world. Every team discovers different places, for example one team the Antarctica. Every team has a special field where they discover things.

I read "A Look at Russia" book. The AR level book is 2.0. My score was 5 out of 5. This book is about Russia. Russia is a big country. Mascow is the capital of Russia. They speak russian. They have different traditions.

Another book I read was "Communities". I scored 100% on this book. The book talks about the different kinds of communities. There are three different kinds of communities: the rural communities, the suburban communities and the urban communities. I also learned how each community looks like.

I read "animals Build" book. The AR level is 1.4. My score was 5 out of 5. This book is about different kinds of animals. Every animal is different thay have different characteristics.

I also read the book "We Vote" and I scored 100% in the AR test.

The book informs about the different ways of voting. It tells that students may vote in class to decide where a trip should go. Adults vote for presidents and other purposes. :-*

Communities can vote what to do with a certain space. We vote to get a result that the majority likes.

"Earthquake!" is another book I read. It tells why earthquakes happen and how they build up. The book gives information about what people can do to prepare for a earthquake and that scientists try to predict earthquakes more than a few hours before they happen. I scored 100% on the test about this book.

Another interesting book I read is called "The Moon". This book explains why we see the moon in different shapes in different nights. There are four phases in which the moon looks different. one example is the phase most people know: full moon. The phase when you can't see the moon is called new moon. The book had many other useful information. By the way, I scored 100% in the AR test.

I read the book with My Soccer Book.
This book has 3.0 AR reading level and I got 100%
Soccer is very interesting sport and soccer it has many rule.

Some animal's pattern is protect animal and add beauty.

I read "How paper is made" The AR level is 2.7. My score was 5 out of 5. This book is about how paper is made. The papers need to passing for a prosing before to be a paper. The papers is come from the trees. A lot of people are working in this prosing in a big factory.

I read "The Olympics" book. This book is about sports. The AR level is 3.2. My score was 3 out of 5. The olympics are a activity very important for everybody in the world. The olympics means compitions. A lot of people participed on this big compition in differents parts of the world. In the olympics have differents sports like soccer, tenis, vasquetball, etc.
